The Taunton Sinfonietta, Somerset

Upcoming concert - Larking About!

Saturday September 28th Temple Methodist Church Taunton 7.30pm
Sunday September 29th Bridport Arts Centre 3.00pm

Taunton Sinfonietta has put together a marvellous concert programme for you this month, being performed at bothTaunton and Bridport, featuring three soloists and requiring an especially enlarged orchestra for the occasion. It's going to be great!

LARKING ABOUT of course features Vaughan William's classic and ever popular "The Lark Ascending" which was top of the Classic FM chart for four years running 'til 2011 and remains in the top 10 today. Notoriously difficult to play it sounds not only hauntingly beautiful but deceptively simple when played well! With Mary Eade, our very own musical director, as soloist it will be superb and you are in for a treat!

Also on offer is the rarely performed and wonderfully reflective Oboe Concerto by Richard Strauss with soloist Lynn Carter.Lynn has been a professional musician for 40 years, performed internationally, studied under the internationally renowned Heinz Holliger and now, fortunately for us, lives locally!

Our last, but by no means, least soloist is pianist Edward Creed, Taunton's Young Musician of the Year 2013. A pupil of Wells Cathedral School and only 15 when he competed, Edward's outstanding playing is bound to impress you as he plays the cheerful 1st Movement of Mozart's Piano Concerto in F major. He certainly deserves this opportunity to perform with Taunton Sinfonietta, which once again it is pleased to be providing to a very talented young musician.

Mozart's Symphony 40 in G minor is one of the last three that he wrote and is probably his best known. This is a great opportunity to hear a live full orchestral performance locally.

Elizabethan Serenade was written in 1951 by Ronald Binge who had tired of being an 'arranger' for, primarily, the Mantovani Orchestra and turned his hand to composition: originally a theme tune for the BBC's 'Musical Tapestry' he renamed this piece to reflect the 'new era of optimism' upon Elizabeth's accession to the throne in 1952.

With such a rare combination of pieces this promises to be a superb concert - we look forward to seeing you at Taunton or Bridport: do tell your friends and book early!
