The Taunton Sinfonietta, Somerset

Emphasis on Elgar

Ladies and Gentlemen - you are in for a treat!
Don't miss this upcoming concert on Saturday 9th November at St James' Church, Taunton featuring not only the wonderfully evocative works by Elgar but also the Haydn Cello Concerto in C Major with Menuhin School trained soloist Sarah Padday.

Elgar's 'Introduction and Allegro for Strings' is an outstanding example of Elgar's genius, the theme for which was inspired by singing he heard in the Welsh hills close to his home, whilst 'Salut d'Amour', one of his earliest pieces, is a truly beautiful uplifting melody that had an instant appeal when first performed and has been loved ever since.

As an additional treat we also have a World Premiere: we are to be joined by composer Eric Sweeney conducting his 'Ceol Concertante'! Ceol is a triple concerto for solo violin, cello and piano with a string orchestra. Ancient Irish music was classified as Lullaby, Lament or Joyful and the concerto follows this format, although not intended as Irish traditional music.

Lastly, the Sinfonietta will be performing the gentle and lyrical 'Serenade for Strings' by Russian composer Kalinnikov whose work was popular in the early twentieth century, he having died at the young age of 35 in 1901.

The above does not reflect the order of the programme but in all it promises, as always, to be a wonderful evening of superb live classical music. It's on your doorstep and we do hope you will be able to join us and enjoy it!

Do please continue to support us and do tell your friends!
