Next Taunton Concert - Young Musician's Platform - Sunday 2nd December 2018, 3.00pm at Temple Methodist Church, Taunton.2018 TYM winner double bassist Alexander Heather will perform a concerto by the acclaimed 19th century double bass player and composer Bottesini, and director Mary Eade will play a Bach concerto. Two unfamiliar works are in the programme; a new work by violinist and composer Sarah wormell, and the Miniature Suite for piano and strings by Cyril Rootham, Keith Jones will play the solo part and the concert will be attended by members of Cyril Rootham's family. Short works by Corelli, (his Christmas Concerto), Liszt and Leroy Anderson complete the programme.
The Sinfonietta employs a range of soloists, aiming to encourage younger performers as often as possible. To this end, the winner of the Taunton Young Musician competition performs with the orchestra as part of their prize. The orchestra is also happy to premier works by local composers. Programmes are varied and include pieces from the baroque, classical, romantic and more modern periods. The Sinfonietta is supported by Patrons and Friends. We are also on Facebook and Twitter.
