The Taunton Sinfonietta, Somerset

September Concert

August 2022

Hello Everyone!

There's a fresh, youthful feel to Taunton Sinfonietta's concert on Saturday 17th September in St.James' Church, Taunton at 7.30 pm
- a good antidote to Autumn!

This is on several counts: the orchestra will be joined by Alma Orr-Ewing, a young viola soloist hotfoot from the Birmingham Conservatoire, where she earned a Distinction in her Post-Graduate Performance Studies; Benjamin Britten was still a teenager when he wrote the ever-popular "Simple Symphony" which will be played; there'll be dance music from the 16th, 19th and 20th centuries - a galliard by Dowland, the folk dance "Sir Roger de Coverly" and 2 tangos by Piazzola; and an arrangement of Mozart's early String Quartet in G major K80.

Alma will play the haunting, evocative piece by Britten "Lachrymae - Reflections on a Song of Dowland", based on the song "If my complaints could passions move"- a set of variations from dreamy to resigned through anger, confusion and more, with a wonderful, serene ending - a piece well worth getting to know!

Tickets @£15 are available from Taunton Visitor Centre (01823 340470)
or online from www.tauntonsinfonietta.org.uk or at the door.

A reminder - our Young Musician's Platform concert (more young talent!) will be on Sunday 4th December at 3 pm in Temple Methodist Church, Taunton, when Anthony Knight, Taunton Young Musician 2022 will play "Winter" from Vivaldi's Four Seasons for violin and strings.
