The Taunton Sinfonietta, Somerset

Summertime

We present a heady concoction of masterful and evocative pieces to stir the senses

Saturday 28th June - 7.30pm

St James' Church, Taunton TA1 1JS

Vivaldi's 'Summer' from The Four Seasons depicts all the familiar aspects of this season - from the sweltering heat (perhaps now becoming a distant memory!)and rising birdsong, to the (more familar) heavy summer storms. This, with Gershwin's incredibly popular 'Summertime' from 'Porgy and Bess' and Romance from 'The Gadfly' by Shostakovitch, set the scene for our summer theme along with the hint of birdsong from Haydn in his String Quartet op33 no 3 nicknamed 'The Bird'.

A major attraction to this concert will undoubtedly be Bach's Double Concerto for Violin and Oboe, for which we have superb soloists Mary Eade (violin) and Lyn Carter (oboe) to look forward to. Something not to be missed.

Also featured are Rossini's String Sonata no 1 in G originally composed when he was 12, and 'Gabriel's Oboe' by Morricone, the 'unforgettable' theme of the 1986 film 'The Mission'.

Tickets as always are available from the Taunton Information Centre off the foyer to the library, or on the door - but we do advise purchasing in advance.

Refreshments will be available.

Adults £15, Friends £12, Students £5.

We look forward to welcoming you on the night and thank you for your support. As always, we ask that you mention us to your friends and neighbours if they are not already in the know and to look at our website for further and full information about us.
