Here we are, nearing the end of 2018 and the last Taunton Sinfonietta concert of the year - it seems only yesterday we were telling you of the 2018 plans!
So, on Sunday afternoon 2nd December in Temple Methodist Church, Taunton at 3 pm, we present the Taunton Young Musician 2018 - always a winner in every sense of the word - together with works old and new, seasonal and for any time...
We start with the beautiful Concerto Grosso by Corelli known as The Christmas Concerto, and continue with Respighi's intriguing arrangement for strings of Bach's violin and piano sonata in E minor, with our Director, Mary Eade on solo violin.
Taunton Young Musician 2018, Alexander Heather will play Bottesini's tuneful Double Bass Concerto no.2 in B minor, a brilliant opportunity for both soloist and instrument to shine!
We also hear the Miniature Suite by Cyril Rootham, a contemporary of Vaughan Williams; "Angelus" by Liszt, inspired by the sound of the midday bells; Concertino for violin and strings by Sarah Wormell, whose works have delighted us several times already; and finally, three great pieces by Leroy Anderson - The Typewriter (soloist Robin Carpenter), The Waltzing Cat and the famous Sleigh Ride.
Tickets at £15 (£12 for Friends) are available from Taunton Visitor Centre (tel: 01823 340470), online from our website, or at the door.
We hope to see you at Temple Methodist Church on 2nd December!
EARLY NEWS… Our first concert next year is on Sunday 10th February 2019 at 3 pm, in Temple Methodist Church, and 'is entitled "Collections and Connections"; CPE and JS Bach, Schubert and Mendelssohn, Rutter and Pärt.
With best wishes,
